This short video, made by www.pyongyang-painters.com, shows an artist who is painting at the Moranbong park in Pyongyang in spring 2009. The Moranbong park is popular with painters as it is a scenic park. The 46 ha park is located at the southern foot of Moran Hill and west of the Taedong river. Its name stems from the peony flower (Moran) which it resembles. The landscape is well known for the Moran and Chongnyu waterfalls that cascade down into the Taedong river. The park is also famous for its many significant historic relics, including vestiges of the old Pyongyang Castle walls and various ornamental pavilions. The pavilions were restored in the recent past and the area was turned into a "workers' park". It has become Pyongyangs largest recreation area and a popular place for Koreans to spend a free day that often includes picnicking and dancing. It also has a small zoo and an open-air theatre. Moranbong park covers a very large part of the district which is also home to the Kim Il Sung Stadium and the Pyongyang Arch of Triumph, the world's largest such arch.
