A historic road linking the Kashmir valley with Jammu will soon be open for traffic. The Mughal Road was used by Emperor Akbar to defeat the king of Kashmir 400 years ago.
The states chief minister drove on the road on Friday. He expressed his gratitude to the federal government for its financial support.
[Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir]:
We are trying to throw open the road for traffic by June-July next year. There will be no shortage of money to build the road, as the federal government has decided to fund the project.
Locals look forward to the completion of restoration work on the road.
[Ghulam Hassan, Local]:
This road will benefit us a lot as transport will become easier for people travelling to Poonch.
Despite heavy snowfall, the roadwork is continuing uninterrupted and is nearing completion.
