Raina's First Day Home

The happy ending for a plain black dog. We are so happy to have Raina join our family! :) She is anything but plain....

Raina's story: "Raina, meaning queen, is a name only fitting for a little black dog that needs a rags-to-riches ending. You see, Raina is only [one and a half] years old. She won't ever weigh more than 20 pounds at a good weight. We believe that she is a Chihuahua/Beagle mix. She has already had a litter or two. We guess that was all her first owner needed her for, as no one came looking for her when she found herself in a rural Southern Ohio pound. The volunteers there knew her chances were slim. She is a plain, little black dog who is just a bit scared of the world. After all, it hasn't shown her too much kindness. The pound volunteers, hoping for a miracle, sent her on transport. The intended rescue said no. A MAWL volunteer happened to overhear the exchange and quickly made a phone call, the phone call that brought her to us. MAWL couldn't say no. We know it might take a little bit longer for someone else to see the special in Raina. Raina is quietly delightful. She loves children. She accepts other dogs and is learning how to play! It is a totally new experience for a dog that has only ever known motherhood and solitude. She is learning how to sit for a treat and come to her name. And, she is learning just how great comfy dog beds really are! Raina is a gal that once shown a bit of kindness, will repay you by lying by your side for hours. She has known the worst that humankind has to offer. All she needs now is to find her castle!"
