the string sounds shitty

it certainly does, for several reasons. 1 it's a low B string, I swapped it out for an A string now. 2 there's no top on the resonator box so it loses a lot of potential sound from the string. and 3 at the beginning of the video there's hardly any tension on the string so it's hard to get any good sound out of it.
