HEALTHCARE

Hope, the rebellious child
of Looming Disaster
and Barren Brain
opted for surgery,
chemical therapy,
amputation
hysterectomy
lobotomy
and extraction.

Hope took the pill,
of course
shots,
antidepressants
blood pressure up
and new glasses.

Hope tried to commit suicide
with carbombs
and starvation
but failed -
as only Hope can.

Justice! Alms! Mercy!
Open your eyes
and your pocketbook
for a hospitalbed
or a chapel
in the airport
or the hospital.

A simple shot in the dark
a known herb
or a form to fill out.
Give her a website
I.V.
or somebody's bodyparts.

Grafts graft.
The pickled fetus
at the Museum of Science and Industry
for all to see
Hope's last resort
for a long life.

Wanted:
a needle and thread.
New shoes.
And to get out of bed.
