Spearfishing Halibut in Northern California

Low visibility shallow water halibut hunting in Humboldt County...It was a combined effort between many people that allowed us to spear these fish, that as far as we could find, were the first (actually, not the first! See comments. Nice job Pops!) halibut taken by spear in Humboldt county. Many thanks to Sam for filming and to Andrew for telling us where he'd seen hallies in the past.
The large snail was a moon snail, the crabs were dungeness, and the fish inside of the moon jelly was a medusa fish.
The diver is wearing a Yazbeck Kelp Stalker wetsuit, Picasso Blackteam fins, and using a Crist, 5ft polespear.

i was diving with my bro at santa cruiz when i swam right into 3 baby halibut. it was pretty beast, other than my sinus squeez on the boat

First halibut taken while free diving in Humbodlt? Sorry my friend, been diving these water since 1968. Speared plenty of halibut, other species too. Nice Vid. We have some underwater 8mm film from the 70s & 80s with some Big flatties! Good Luck and dive safe. Pops, 55 and still go'n down!
