I enjoyed insightful Pete's soliloquy on the changing state of the economics of music since his generation:

"...Why did we want to be rich? Why did we want to make loads of money? It's because we could."

That sounds right. Nowadays, people with ambitions to become rich and famous are unlikely to set out to achieve these things by becoming musicians.
