One of the most breathtaking races ever. Italian rowing legends Giuseppe and Carmine Abbagnale, reigning olympic and world champions, face East Germans Olaf Foerster and Thomas Greiner (who last defeated them in the 1983 worlds together with Ulrich Diessner) and British reigning 4+ olympians Steve Redgrave and Andy Holmes, who are also competing in the coxless pairs. All of these men will take gold in Seoul two years later (although of course in different boat classes).

  • thats my dad in the german boat...olaf foerster;)

  • @franzr8 Wow, your dad is one of my idols! I had the honour of starting next to him in the masters' eights in Vienna this year, and he still looks as mean as in Seoul ;^) My best regards.

  • You see the stroke of the East-German crew dying the last 150meters !

  • Oddly enough, though, it was the bow who didn't show up at the victory ceremony.
