Dr. David Blake, Principal Investigator of the CheMin instrument, gives a demonstration of his invention at the Kennedy Space Center. Short for "Chemistry & Mineralogy," CheMin is one of 10 science instruments aboard the Mars Science Laboratory, NASA's latest Mars rover. CheMin will identify the minerals in samples of powdered rock or soil in a search to determine if conditions were right to support life on Mars.

Very interesting to see. I used to do X-ray-diffraction some years ago and the instrument filled a room. Good progress!

@nasaames Thanks for the re-editing of Dr. Blake's video. This will definitely bring in some more viewers. Always here to help. Your welcome. Now I can finally say I actually worked for NASA for a split second. LOL. This is awesome!

@William21984...thanks for pointing that out. That slipped by us in the compression of the original file. When we compressed the file, we spot checked...saw the first 10 seconds was good and then moved ahead 10 minutes into the file...it was good and so on. We've moved the in point to begin when Dr. Blake begins speaking. A bit abrupt, but better than making you wait. We're glad you like our videos and please let us know when you have any suggestions to improve them!
