Exclusive battery pack, huh?
I never saw that.

I don't have a source or other information about this video. I probably downloaded it from IGN, but it doesn't have the IGN stamp.

I am confident that it was shown at an old E3 or SpaceWorld, as the first video to demo the then upcoming GBA. Likely 2000 or 2001.

It's not in the video, but before the GBA was released, Nintendo also said that there was going to be wireless, worldwide gaming, but this was obviously cancelled for GBA and was incorporated into Nintendo's next handheld, the DS.

Does anyone have any pictures or videos of the GBA prototype? I remember there was a prototype, and one of the difference was different shoulder buttons.

The info about the file on my computer:

  • i dont mean to be mean but the video should have added.... shitty screen

  • Yeah that makes total sense.

"Let's downplay this product we're trying to sell"

  • ... Did they really have to waste time showing the 2 shoulder buttons separately?

  • Hahaha. I bet they did it, because they knew some fanboy or naysayer would start shit about there being only one shoulder button.

But I agree. It's a bit redundant. You have to keep in mind, this was the first time people saw the darn thing. They were stoked, and talking among themselves in the audience while shitting their pants. They didn't care if Nintendo had dildos poking out of the new handheld.

  • I think gba is one of best systems ever

  • @Draknfyre Well I'm pretty sure nintendo said it was a bit more powerful than the n64. But idk, I guess you're right. It really pisses me off to say it, but I guess I'm wrong. I fuckin hate when I'm wrong, lol.

  • @TheXRealXBrapp

Mario 64 was on an 8MB cart. At the time, they could have done almost exactly the same as the DS version, but would have required a bigger cart. At the time, carts were expensive. Cart space does not equal RAM. The Nintendo 64 had 8MB of RAM, including the Expansion Pak. The DS has 4MB. And the bottom screen usually has a 2D UI, not hard to do.

  • @Draknfyre Huh? Have you taken a look at super mario 64 ds? It has much better textures and geometry than the 64 version. Plus, ds cartidges hold 4 times the data, meaning the ds has much more RAM aswell. AND the ds has to render 2 displays for the 2 screens. Lol, I know the ds is old now, but I couldn't resist replying to this comment.

  • that shouldve been the gba startup

  • the future

  • @Plingio

The DS isn't a little better than the Nintendo 64. While it's close, it's not superior.

  • This completely mindfucked my mind

  • @roozie11 Nope, Wii. It's really powerful.

  • @Plingio do you mean game cube
