While researching a noise in the front end of my blazer i found a lot of people stating that the issues in the S10 is one of the hood hinge pins/bolts that needs a replacement washer. Believe it or not that little bolt probably causes that pop sound when the front clip flexes. Unfortunately that doesn't help me with my problem but thought it might help you out.

my friends jeep sounds exactly like that and we determined it was the sway bar, but it happens more frequently than you described
