Orlando's A-Line is going through a massive overhaul for rails, crossings and signals. Here's a group of CSX employees on 12/4/07 on their way to Winter Park to work on a crossing. Lack of expertise, but not sure why all vehicles could trigger the crossings. I saw a few wrecks almost occur for people not paying attention to the crews.

  • Great info! I never bothered to google that, so nice to know. And good point, if a car plays chicken with a locomotive, then why not a go-kart sized MoW vehicle??? Good point. Hope they finish safely!

  • They've been working real hard trying to get that line ready for commuter rail. My dad works in Longwood and he has seen them working every night. Question: Did you take this video at Florida Hospital?

  • You are good! Rollins Street as a matter of fact. The crew was at Highland and Orange before taking off. I thought they were finally taking out the remaining Dinky Line track. Turns out they were just using it as a side for a break while working on the crossing there. You definitely know your Orlando!

  • I don't understand this. What a pity the vid stopped!

  • I think some vehicles have insulated axles that don't complete the circuit. Most crossing signal detectors work via track circuits-when the axles of the train complete a circuit between the rails, the signals go off. Not sure why the vehicles are built without that ability though since it seems mighty dangerous for the crews since if people won't pay attention to a giant train with a blasting horn, why would they pay attention to a little MoW vehicle no bigger than their car?

  • i like csx railroad crossing

  • It is a night crew we switch shifts in citys that have high commuter runs. Even the "go-kart" sized ones weigh 16000 lbs. I have seen one of the Nordco Hammer Spikers hit/been hit by a car not pretty. This gang is a rail gang I saw two anchor machines and a rail heater and tie gangs do not have either of those machines.

  • Some of the MoW and Hi-Rail vehicles without insulated wheels simply don't carry enough weight to consistently complete the circuit.

  • beautiful video and also amusing because the passage to level opens while him opened another time is closed compliments it makes to laugh answer me please hi

  • And CSX reached an agreement with FDOT. Thus, more of the freight trains on the A Line will be rerouted to the S Line.
