Last Saturday the third annual Community Health Fair took place at College Ready Academy High School number four in Los Angeles. Youth Policy Institute AmeriCorps members volunteered at the fair.
The event featured a number of workshops such as Self Defense where those that attended could learn easy ways to keep themselves safe from attackers. There was also a Health Promoters, Womens Health, Internet Safety and many other workshops.
Daisy Tonantzin moderated a workshop on Growing your own herbs. In this workshop Tonantzin discussed the benefits of growing herbs. Those from the community shared some of there herb remedies. Ingredients for a remedy that reduces fever was shared it includes a tea mixture of cinnamon, spearmint and one clove of garlic.
AmeriCorps members as well as other that attended were able to receive free messages, eye exams by the Optometric Eye Institute and donate blood.
Some of the health companies and organizations that came out to the event include Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, Optometric Eye Institute, UCLA Healthcare, PHFE WIC Program, Community Health Plan L.A. County, Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center, Clinica Monsenor Oscar A. Romero, Arroyo Vista Family Health Center, Yerberia Mayahuel, Care 1st Health Plan, KHEIR Clinic and the Childrens Dental Center of Greater Los Angeles.
