I really wish they would've recorded every shot during this match! I watch this Shell match over and over, not to mention that Hogan gives golfers the best golf tip ever recorded at the end of that match!! As to your question, to me it looks like Hogan is hitting a fade, but his practice swing is for a draw. Although, Hogan says your practice swing is prep for the swing and shot needed.
Seems to me in the practice swing he is focusing on what he thinks his personal flaws and strengths are, or vital sections that can't be done thinking at speed, and then executes the normal swing instinctively, hoping that the intent in the practice swing carries over into the real thing, all the more fresh in memory as the practice swing occurred a few seconds before. I've seen other practice swings with driver that on the backswing his right foot steps back and away as the left does in transi
Hi Chris, I am really enjoying your videos. I am a big Hogan fan and you have some great footage. Jim Hardy's explanation of the bowing move and the arms moving around as opposed to rotating the face shut through the ball makes perfect sense to me. Even the footage of Hogan while older making slow motion swings on the beach does not represent his real swing. It make me wonder if Hogan was aware of the move he was making as it is so different from his practice swing
thanks chris...especially interesting in the final piece about the through swing...and that matches up with some diagrams in 5L where the elbows show they are rolling and the club is releasing (and also in the video of him on Ed Sullivan show)...yet when crunch time came he seemed to not make that rolling motion and became more pivot orientated... thanks for side by side

Awesome, great look at his practice swing. I think that little step he takes is a major part of how he thought about power. Good work Chris
