i didn't think slap wih your thumb down would be considered punk i always you could either slap with your thumb resting on the neck like the first slap of a double thumb or just letting your thumb hit the string and then come off. i've always been told that slapping wich your thumb down was bad cause then your thumb could slide on the over string and make them vibrate and that having your thumb aligned with the neck was easier to get used to...but i do both anyway. it helps me go faster
