rigged up a camera mount in my S50-swapped E30 and drove around the other night. The footage was shot mainly between Concord, NH and Manchester, NH but the launch was in a more rural area. All footage was shot with a Canon Powershot G9 on a tripod-based camera mount in between the front seats. Editing and production was done using iMovie on a MacBook Pro. This was my first attempt at editing so be nice!

The Car: '90 325is with S50B30/ZF/3.25LSD, Ground Control coilovers/Bilstein Shocks/Struts, Suspension Techniques Sways, Massive Brakes 280mm Big Brake Kit with Wilwood Dynapro Calipers.

The Music: "Contrails" by Brendan Carey Block. Track download and more available at http://brendancareyblock.bandcamp.com.

  • Has it given you any problems?

i got a e30 myself and i blew a headgaskit on the m20 motor so i was thinking of doing the s50 conversion

  • I responded to your other comment, but in short it's been great! If you get a low-mileage motor with documented maintenance history you should be fine.

  • Hey, I have an e30 as well. Offtopic, I know, but how are the ground control coilovers for you? I was thinking about buying them.

  • The GCs are great! If you like to tweak things they can end up being frustrating because it's tempting to adjust them a lot but the ride is great and you can pick and choose your spring rates for your own driving style.

  • what did you do for the differential and halfshafts to handle the extra power/torque? also did you keep the rear brakes stock?

  • Diff is out of 535is but that's just because I needed the taller ratio for the M3 transmission. Halfshafts are stock along with the rear brakes (with braided lines and Hawk pads though) and so far everything is holding up.

  • I love my 325i. Only mod is a Signature Motoring performance intake kit. They run around $150 and add around 9hp in the six-cylinder E30s and a bit less in the 318. That's the best value per HP gain... A good value for the extra oomph. General HP increases are shown:

    E30 series: 6.0-13.4hp gain

    E36 series: 5.5-12hp gain

    E46 series: 6.0-13.9hp gain

    E92 series: 8.5+ hp gain

    Z3/Z4 (all): 5.5-13.9hp gain

See my channel videos for action!

  • I have an E30 325i and the only performance item I have is the Signature Motoring performance CAI for about $150. The performance kit adds around 9HP on the dyno, sounds freaking great, and installs in under 30 minutes. Highly recommended.

    -Avg 9 HP increase

    -Lifetime filter

    -SOUND AWESOME

    -30 min. install time

Aside from the power gain, the SOUND is amazing at higher RPM but sounds normal in regular driving. I’m thinking about added high-flow exhaust next.
