The so-called War on Poverty has failed. Making government bigger and creating more federal redistribution programs has been bad news for taxpayers. But the welfare state also has been a disaster for the less fortunate, creating a flypaper effect that makes it difficult for people to lead independent and self-reliant lives. This Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation video shows how the poverty rate was falling after World War II -- but then stagnated once the federal government got involved. www.freedomandprosperity.org

The best single word that I can think of to fix poverty is incentive.

Up until three months ago I was living in a homeless facility for veterans, and let me tell you, most of the guys there had smartphones, laptops, TV's, Gym memberships, and quite a few had cars. Heck I myself had a bunch of new Apple products, wifi, a 42" LG LED, a PS3, a printer, and a gym membership.

Friedman is the only person that I can think of that actually advocated free market capitalism, aside from hayak of course.

Yeah but those people are better off than they would have been. Many 3rd world people want us to outsource jobs because the jobs we provide are better than any other job they would have had

I assume you have a somewhat liberal slant on politics, while I'm a pragmatic libertarian. I don't think we disagree that much. The other people you'll see on youtube are very polarized. I wouldn't take them to represent the parties they align themselves with.

Those companies have to give full disclosure of any safety issues otherwise that's a violation of the consumer. After full disclosure is given the rest is left to the free market. Also, society has the ability to stipulate what the minimum safety requirements are such that the consumer cannot be considered violated.
