@Masterfootballer23 Russian Slavs migrated from Kiev State or Rus during medieval period - hence Russian Slavs are not native to Russia - the balalaika is predominantly Russian instrument which originally came from the Mongols - not the balalaika but the Bandura is Ukraine national instrument - Russia has always presented hegemonious intent and domination over Ukraine which included banning Ukrainian language and artificially enforcing of Russian language into Ukraine
-
@majorgeeek I think it all comes down to the view on who the russians are...
If You can tell me your opinion on their origin then... please.
Because I've always thought of the russians as coming from the same Kyivan (Kievan) Rus culture as ukrainians. And what is the russian language then?????
The balalaika is both a ukrainian national instrument and a very popular cultural instrument in Russia.
And what does hegemonious intent have to do with anything, by speaking russian we are not russian....
-
@Masterfootballer23 no your example does not support "western" influence - it shows the closer relationship of Russian than Ukrainian to Old East Slavonic which is the language of the Chronicles - Ukrainian language underwent more changes from Old Slavonic at an earlier stage than Russian - Russian Slavs are not native to Russia nor is Russian language native to Russia and especially not native to Ukraine and don't forget Russians have had hegemonious intent over Ukraine for centuries
-
@majorgeeek But I am not pro russian, I am neutral on them, but I feel like we are much closer to the russian culture than the polish or lithuenian one. And Ukrainian got heavily influenced by them.
The Russian may have been assholes in the later ages but in the beggining we were all one culture, The slavic Kyivan or Kievan Rus. Now, poland and lithuania have their own culture, not connected to us. And Don't forget that cossacks also were not the friendliest people on earth..

@majorgeeek This is a script from the Laurentian Codex:
"Се повѣсти времѧньных лѣт ‧ ѿкуду єсть пошла руская земѧ ‧ кто въ києвѣ нача первѣє кнѧжит ‧ и ѿкуду руская землѧ стала єсть."
Uk: "Повість минулих літ, звідки пішла Руська земля, і хто в ній почав спершу княжити, і як Руська Земля постала"
Ru: "Повесть временных лет, откуда пошла русская земля, кто в Киеве начал первым княжить, и откуда возникла русская земля"
You can see that ukrainian certainly got influenced by western countries.

Here is my history:
In the Kievan Rus everyone talked in old east slavic (Belarus, Ukraine, Russia), the old east slavic language
then matured into three languages, Russia lived as the last state from the kievan rus before becoming a country. Both Ukraine and Belarus languages were heavily influenced by Lithuanian, Polish etc.. western countries because of opression, russian was the least influenced because they were not occupied.
-
@Masterfootballer23 Russia or Russian policy no longer determines rules for Ukraine - Russian language is different to Ukrainian different alphabets, inflexions, soundings etc so much so that many Russians living in Russia cannot understand Ukrainian speech - there is no reason to officiate Russian language in Ukraine - Russian is not native to Ukraine in fact if you check your history you will find Russian language is not even native in Russia
-
@majorgeeek Of course, just like Siverian Russian is different from Moscow Russian, and U.S.A. English is different from Britain's english. It doesn't mean we have to remove it from the official language. And with ukrainian it's the same thing, western Ukraine thinks it speaks pure Ukrainian, but that is not even the same ukrainian as eastern ukrainian dialects.
And what does old "east" slavonic mean???? There was one language in the (Kyivan) Kievan Rus..... not western, eastern??
Мы тоже такое сделали. Только без толпы. С толпой - эффект во многом теряется. Собраться толпой - это комплекс Совка играет. И страх. Страх прячется за организационной работой и прикрывается толпой. :)
