WHOOHOO! I just got Ubuntu running on my Nexus One Android! The display is running off vncserver locally to Android VNC app while the Ubuntu core runs chrooted off Android OS.

This setup is great since you can run both Android and Ubuntu at the same time while being able to use your phone fully as a phone and also the Ubuntu fully as sub-OS and the graphical GUI.

The Ubuntu is Ubuntu ARM-port which runs on pretty much any ARM-based smartphones including the Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, Droid X, and more but you will need a "rooted" phone to do this!

I will have step-by-step directions on this soon over at http://NexusOneHacks.net and also for HTC Evo 4G too (as soon as I figure it out)

For Gingerbread ROM on Nexus One, see this video:

  • @zedomax Holy Jesus. Read my previous comment dude. I said that Linux Does run on ARM, but you are still running a VNC.

  • @ameesdotme Yes there's two ways to run linux, natively or as VNC, both have its benefits.

  • lol my phone is like yours just not nexus lol (hero h4000)

  • @RMADE15 Ubuntu is open-source system. Why i can't build ubuntu for ARM?

And VNC uses to connect LOCALHOST

  • @supezboy try chmod 755 bootubuntu before typing that

  • @zedomax i did ./bootubuntu aswell and it says permision denied

  • @zedomax tried that aswell and it says permision denied

  • @koorbmeh It's VNC to localhost... The chrooted system doesn't see the phone's screen as a display output, so you need to use the VNC protocol on the localhost address to see the video output. He is essentially VNC'ing into another system, however it IS running on his phone

  • @RootSuitMan Torllin' or for realz?

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution... this is Ubuntu with LXDE as the desktop environment because it's lightweight

  • THIS ISNT UBUNTU THIS IS LUNIX DONT FALL FO IT
