This is the follow-up story of the original A Current Affair report (http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=450681) how the big milk processors in Australia water down our milk with "permeate" in the name of "standardisation". It's been a well kept secret, it's not mentioned on labels, and Diary Australia and the big milk companies refuse to be interviewed unless "they can ask their own questions'. On their website Diary Australia is trying to convince us that watering down a natural, whole staple product is to our [the consumer] benefit, yet they won't answer to us in the media. Something smells here; and where will Big Business stop in the name of making profits. And to think all this is sanctioned by our Governments. Who's on our side?

  • I am not making an argument for or against using permeate in milk products. I am making an argument against using dairy products altogether. Consuming dairy products is tantamount to exploitation and theft. Like almost every mammal, cows produce milk to FEED THEIR YOUNG. The nature of dairy production is ensure as much of that milk is destined for humans, which in turn means most of the male calves of cows are killed off because they will never produce milk. It is such an unnatural activity.

  • But that debate is far too late and has nothing to do with this video. We have been consuming milk and milk products for centuries now, and we have moved way past if humans should consume it or not. The issue is here, is that the authorities are allowing the watering down of a whole, natural product of ours, up to an 1/8th, 12%, and not even forcing the milk companies to label their products to inform us they are doing it. Just to say, "we shouldn't be consuming it anyway" is a bit "cute"!

  • It's also "unnatural" to describe farming as "theft". In times of disaster relief, what is the first item sent in to provide nutrition to those who need it? Milk biscuits, an edible form of milk, in a small block to provide immediate protein.

  • You should be given credit for defending your position and at least caring about something. Good on you!

  • oh well. doesn't matter really. humans shouldn't be drinking cow's milk anyway- it's meant for their babies.

  • That's very odd logic. The fact is we DO consume it, in many many products. To use your logic as "oh well! they might as well do in anyway", is stunning.

  • @quolatrini ...According to this logic, we also shouldn't eat any seeds and grains, because they are meant to be plant children!!!... ;)

  • Go Norco Milk! Permate Free!

  • Go Norco Milk!

  • any one khow the company supplies milking machines in pakistan,

  • I disagree with everything you say. Milk is theft. To say we should just move on from something just because we've done it for a long time is pathetically weak. The simple point is that taking milk from a mother cow is stealing milk from her baby. She will be killed off too when her milk production drops. Why are we the only species that consumes another species' milk throughout our lifetime? This industry is cruel and exploitative and for that reason I don't give a shit if they water milk down.
