I would recommend care in holding the bow against the knee while applying the rosin. I ended up snapping the bow near the tip. I think downward pressure from the bow against rosin held in the right hand is a safer approach.
Might I recomment putting your thumb on that little metal piece on the end of the frog. If you accidentally bump that piece of metal, you will chip up your rosin.
I don't play cello (yet), I sort of play violin - it's a trick of my dad's. The rosin I use for my violin bow is all chipped up because the former owner didn't do that.

Very useful. I've been rosining my bow by pretty much just bowing the rosin instead of the cello; needless to say it slipped alllll the time, haha.
This seems like a much more efficient method. Thanks!
