But I notice how extremely close the mics are and how always when I attend a baroque performance I'm dissatisfied with the lack of volume. I often wonder if the average modern man living in an industrialized country has suffered some loss of hearing, caused by machines, headphones and loudspeakers, which did not happen to people living in Bach's time.

I am very curious as to the choice of straight tone from the voices and instruments. Do we have any evidence that they never used vibrato?
