It was also forgotten because it was a tactical disaster, and the Americans almost got completely annihilated, so the history books usually don,t mention it.

This was just before the Battle of the Bulge and some of the units that got hammered in the Hurtgen Forest were sent to the Ardennes for R & R and refitting. Ended up being the first to smacked around by the Germans when they launched their offensive. How's that for damned unlucky??

@1998disco72 Iran isnt dangerous, but since 60% of all adult americans are supportive of a war against I Iran now - compared to 10% three years ago, I guess the worlds biggest propagandafactory makes the masses dance to its tunes.
Personally I would love to see a war between Iran and US, but thats just because I like war, not because I have been manipulated into believing its the right thing to do.

Some people are really overplaying this battle. Yes. The Americans suffered very heavy casualties. But they weren't "wiped out" or "annihilated" The battle was a blunder tactically and pointless strategically but it wasn't a disaster. Hell, the Americans ended up taking the forest a month or two after the battle was over.

Who else thinks Ron Eldard would've made a good Solid Snake for a movie?

@JoezVendetta I agree too many countries love socialism until it is forced upon them. Just read Animal Farm George Orwell, who knew how socialism worked.

@PeterMayer Just like the Munich Act signed by Neville Chamberlain! Who thought seriously that the Germans were not going to start a war. OOOPS! You mean those Nazis went back on their word? Hell, Churchill tried to tell you this since Hitler was placed as German Chancellor in 1933 eight damn years!!! Before this fiasco of being invaded. We are seeing it now with the President of Iran..

@hubbabubbly Look our modern day culture is not who we are, it is a small percentage let me remind you very small.

@sgtcamp1246: Greetings. Have you learned upon which book this movie is based? Amazon has several books written about the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. Wikipedia just stated: 'When Trumpets Fade' is based on a true story of the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. Currently I am reading 'A BLOOD-DIMMED TIDE' (Battle of the Bulge) by Gerald Astor based on personal accounts.
Thanks to you or anyone that is knowledgeable about the book in question and will share that knowledge.
I'm not a fan of America, nor am I a hater. However they did help us (England) out greatly in the war. For that matter, they helped everyone out in the war, as well as holding their own with Japan. So don't hate them because of their modern day culture.

Having said that, I would say it's better not to categorise everyone into one "side" or the other - human beings are individuals after all.

@NotesCollector It is not wrong to categorise people on one side or the other because of the war, because it is what happened, Axis consisted of Germany, Japan, Italy etc. Where as Allied were Americans, British, Canadians, French etc. I'm not exactly going to say:" The humans attacked the humans however the humans fortunately managed to contact the other humans to battle the humans." It is not wrong to categorise people because of their nationality. Hope this is what you meant x

Yes of course, We couldnt be going around saying that " The human with a defective nut went on a harvest of carnage against the other humans because of their religion and ethnicity" , could we? :)
