From a wonderful "Le Nozze di Figaro" conducted by Georg Solti at Paris Opera Garnier in 1980.
The very famous stage production by Giorgio Strelher.
Fabulous cast : Jose Van Dam (Figaro), Lucia Popp (Susanna), Gundula Janowitz (Contessa Almaviva), Gabriel Bacquier (Almaviva), Federica Von Stade (Cherubino), Jane Berbié (Marcellina).

  • The Fragonard-inspired set, the dream cast, Solti, and of course, Mozart's best work of all time—perfection.

  • Why oh why can't someone please post the 1991 performance of the New York City opera of this? It was simulcast on BBC before I die please Sept 25th 1991. Scott Bergeson Conductor Maureen OFlynn played Susanna! PLEASE PLEASE the whole opera, or at least the aria Susanna sings in the garden in the 4th act to tease Figaro!

  • How right you are, the cast is fabulous. What a wonderful Susanna Lucia Popp was.

  • 6:00 starting here i always get goosebumps. even after the billionth time listening to this beautiful piece of music.

  • @AmericanEvita - Don't cry Evita, perhaps in you next life you will be born a few years ealier!

    (Is that possible?)

Just a little joke here, so please don't take offence....

You were born in 1980 - so that makes you about 30 years old.

Well, let me say that you do not look 30 years old!

But 10 years ago 'you looked 30 years old'

    Questions without answers:

Why is Abbreviate such a long word?

Why is Dyslexia such a hard word to spell?

Why does Sour Cream have a sell-by date?

  • Wonderful performance. I've just seen the new one a few days ago in Bastille with Luca Pisaroni and Ludovic Tézier and it wasn't too bad. Good opportunity to appreciate in live the nice decor and the marvellous costumes.

  • Beautiful production. I was born the year of this performance (1980). As such, I missed out on even the great opera stars still singing past their prime in this decade - Sutherland, Popp, Janowitz, Price and 80's ladies like Kathy Battle, Jessye Norman, Carol Vaness and Ghena Dimitrova. The 80's was probably the final great era of opera. 90's singers weren't all that. I don't like Fleming or Terfel. Damn, I was born too late!

  • Heaven...

  • It's a music for your soul... Perfection and such a talent and insight - a work of a true genius

  • hahaha loove it

  • Beauty.

  • the first opera I saw at 13

  • @mozartjpn137 Hehe that's how I felt when I finally got to see it live. But then I could live in the theater. Seriously. lol

  • Magnificent Mozart. Who else could compose music like this. The finale must rank among the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

  • bravo!

  • I love the way that Mozart can pull you between tears and smiles.

  • Beautiful! Well done!

  • I know that feeling :(

  • omg so amazing mozart was the best

  • Et lux perpetua Maestro....

    I love it!

  • 5:46 onwards! Perfection!!!
