Amon Amarth is a viking-themed melodic death metal band from Sweden founded in 1992[1] in Tumba, named after a location in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. The name means "Mount Doom" in Sindarin, one of Tolkien's Elvish languages.

Amon Amarth est un groupe de Death metal metal de Suède. Le nom du groupe signifie Mont du Destin dans le langage Sindarin, inventé par J. R. R. Tolkien. Les chansons du groupe parlent principalement des vikings et de mythologie.

Amon Amarth lässt sich nicht eindeutig in ein Subgenre des Metals einordnen. Rein musikalisch entspricht die Band dem Melodic Death Metal. Da sich die Texte ausschließlich mit Themen der Wikinger und der nordischen Mythologie beschäftigen, wird die Band häufig dem Genre des Viking Metal zugerechnet. Gegen diese Zuordnung spricht jedoch, dass diese Spielart musikalisch dem Black Metal entstammt und nicht dem Death Metal. Je nachdem, wieviel Gewicht man den Liedtexten bei der Kategorisierung zukommen lässt, kann man die Band entweder als Melodic-Death-Metal-Band oder als Viking-Metal-Band ansehen.

@DanHar84 actually the viking threat over mainland Europe was ended by centralized monarchys allowing battalions of well trained to quickly respond to attacks, as well as advances in weaponry Ie. longbows and advances in agriculture that allowed them to survive in the hostile northland... simply put raiding was no longer easy, and no longer completely nesicary... I suggest you read how the Viking Threat over mainland Europe ended and then you can come and lecture us in history!
