Cameron Josse represents another eXpLoSiVe high school athlete in our program! Jumping from foam is much harder than jumping from a hard surface because your force is absorbed into the foam (which obviously has much more "give" to it than a hard gym floor).

  • what is this guy's standing vert?

everyone keeps showing all of these box jumps on youtube, and never mentioning the actual vert.. alot of these box jumps videos on youtube are starting to seem like more of a demonstration of hip flexibiltiy than vert.

    peace

  • Is it higher now because he was untrained before? Improving "explosiveness" is a rather general term, but so is the vertical jump exercise for athletes that are not competing in a vertical jump competition. Gains in box jump may come as a result of the athete having more confidence in not busting his shins, gaining hip flexibility, and just becoming more skilled at it. How well does this translate for athletes who run in there sport? Is there a lot of reactivity and elasticity being displayed?

  • I wasnt being sarcastic btw, as the guy who replied seem to think. I know it is damn hard to jump off foam!

  • damn, jumping off foam has gotta be hard!!!

  • yes it does require more force but I'm talking about the rate...this method teaches the athlete to produce force slower, not faster, as his feet stay in contact with the surface longer before takeoff

  • is it not to absorb the force of the initial phase of the jump so he doestn get as much as he would of a solid surface??

  • I hit a 51" jump yesterday on flat ground @ 6'3" and 215 lbs. Took quite a while to work up to that.

  • The point of the exercise isn't to train reactivity. Confidence, hip flexibility, and skill play a part in the box jump but the athlete still has to get his weight off the ground. Relative strength is the key here. A person who has greater relative strength will be faster and also jump higher. So when training athletes, it is important to make sure their relative strength goes up as well as their raw strength. I.E: box jump + 2 inches, box squat + 15lbs

  • Of course vert matters, but I think you will increase both hip flexibility & vert with these..

  • Yea, does it make it tougher to jump higher?

  • So the purpose of the foam is to DECREASE the rate of force development?
