Please note, I have no control of the advertisements above. In fact, I do not condone many of the advertisements above this video.
Neurodiversity Day is coming up, and I made this for the parents, teachers, family and caregivers of autistic people. I hope that it will help them understand what the Neurodiversity movement is about so that we can all work together in helping each other.

this is a video adaptation of the piece I wrote here: http://neko-no-baka.livejournal.com/300108.html
"Neurodiversity is about accepting that there is no normal human brain, that being different is okay, and to work together to discover how we all can participate to the best of our abilities in our lives...

...We are optimistic that with the proper supports and accommodations, positive attitudes, acceptance, inclusion and encouragement, that every (autistic) person is able to communicate, interact and contribute to society while meeting individual needs and respecting one's sense of self and personal rights."

  • I like this video a lot and agree fundamentally with most of it. Tell me, it is said you would like to help, how? And how would you like to be helped? Just through acceptance, inclusion? Sigur Ros, one of my fav groups.

  • I can't speak for others in terms of what specific services they need/want. For me, I need help in initiating and approaching job placements, as well as help in living on my own and managing money. I need support in "executive" skills, time organization, money managing, etc.

Due to a late diagnosis, I grew up fully included in a regular classroom, but with little to no accommodations.

I would like to see more acceptance and inclusion, for both myself and for other autistic people
