It was imported into the church via platonism, and is in no way based upon exegesis. I can't believe he actually said she conjured up Samuel for real..."And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophet" (1Sam 28:6).
