In this episode, we'll explore repetition within a song or routine. We'll discuss how to use the length, complexity, and drama of a combination to decide how often to repeat it. We'll also discuss how to use theme & variation to make repetition more interesting, as well as using the structure of your music to guide your repetition.
This episode includes both discussion (with graphs!) and dancing. We'll work through several combinations and exercises to demonstrate complexity levels, theme & variation, and working with musical structure. I also teach my "cheater's drop" alternative to the Turkish drop.
This episode also includes performance clips by Nadira Jamal, and Badriya al Badi'a of Boston.
