I wish I could ride with out stirrups but my instructor doesn't teach that and I'm so scared I stiffen up and look like I'm holding on for dear life! It really annoys me when I lose a stirrups when jumping or cantering and I have to stop instead of just knowing how to ride with out the bloody things and continuing! ;(

@olympushorse Also, pinching at the knee and trying to grip form there will effectively release your calf - the opposite effect of what you want.

Nothing about posting comes from the knee. You never want to pinch with the knee. It all comes from the calf!

@mlemck101 You'll get there, Liz is much much much better now, (a few trainers later). It just takes lots and LOTS of time and practice and concentration on using the correct muscles.

I don't know why I put Beau in the info lol. I don't like Tall's saddle with the whole close contract thing. I also can't grip well because he's smaller. I'm not going to even attempt no stirrups with him lol..
