Quick demonstration of a pair of mid 80's drum machines. Demo starts out with dry, direct signals from the machines and then I add a little reverb from Alesis MultiMix 8 at the very end. These machines are popular with circuit benders.

  • Hello,

I recently bought an RX21 for £5 at a bootfair.

works a treat, but I'm trying to suss out whether or not it can be used to play vst synths via midi. Idownloaded a manual which is utterly crap !!

Do you know if it will do this, if so..can you tell me how please.

I did the pressing of the midi button 4 times, then selecting "yes +1", held for 2 seconds..... NOTHING !!!

Am I missing a final detail please?

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Gareth

  • @SONGSTICKS Sorry, I can't help you there: 1. I do not use computers for music - hardware only. 2. I sold these machines last September as I bought them specifically for reselling.

  • I have always wanted to hear what these two sounded like ever since i got my TR-707 & TR-727.

Now we just need a korg DDM-110 & DDM-220 demo to complete the PCM Twin drum machines demos

  • @snolan1990 If I ever find a DDM-220 at a decent price, I'll pair it up with the 110 I already have (see my Yamaha CS-15 video: 3uDJrHOmqe4) and make a video. I also plan to make a Roland drum machine video with DR-55, 110, 220e, CR-78, TR-606, 626, 707, 727, 808 & 909. So stay tuned! That means SUBSCRIBE!

  • That's called a Cuica. Sound is made by rubbing a stick that is attached to the drum head - kinda like pulling a straw out of a "to go" soda cup.

The RX21L Latin machine has really good sounds for mid 80's and even for today's standards.

  • hey my dad lent me this to try out, but i dunno how to set it up, or what to set it up for, like pc or other ways..urgh im such a noob :P help?

  • This sounds very similar to the Yamaha PSS-790 drums, I think some of these drum sounds are in the Yamaha PSS-790, still sounds realistic even by todays standards.

  • @Gazdatronik

    Hi, Thanks for that.

I since found out , but your reply is much appreciated all the same.

I've been thinking about getting a Sonnuus G2M (guitar to midi) box anyway, which should convert the cv of this to midi, as well as guitar.

There's just soooo many toys out there !!

  • @SONGSTICKS I think I can help you. There is no midi out except clock on an rx21.

  • I'm impressed!

  • Does the RX-17 contain all these sounds (and a few more) in ONE box? Or does it sound differently?
