Plight of the Roma community in Kosovo - 24 Nov 08

Many of Europe's 10 to 12 million Roma, or Gypsy, communities live in central or eastern Europe on the margins of society.

For them, Europe's 'untouchables', poverty, persecution and discrimination are part of daily life.

A summit in Strasbourg is trying to address this issue and examine the Roma plight.

Since 1999 the Roma population in Kosovo has fallen sharply after ongoing attacks.

Al Jazeera's Barnaby Philips reports.

@SARANDALBANIA We always respected all minorities in Serbia...Hungarians have their own schools in their language,they don't need to speak Serbian,they have catholic Churches...muslims from Sandzak have mosques and everything what they need....gypsies get social help and everyone who is poor....also some albanians get social help....but you need to thank to Mr.Tadić because he hate Serbia and he love albanians and everyone who is not Serbian...he is very anti-Serbian.
