The quality of the audio recordings sound so much better in the 80's episodes. I wonder if they switched from analogue tape to digital recording in the later years. Anybody know who engineered all of the sound recordings?

@Jradden01 You're actually correct. The 80s recordings were in analog. Starting in 1989 they switched to digital recordings. However in 89 they put more emphasis on a 'live' sound rather than a studio recording like you heard from 1984-88. In 1991 they hardly used any compression on the vocals. Starting in 1992 they gave the music a less watered-down, bubble gum sound with more layers of instruments in the music to make it sound more full and closer to the original.

@Jradden01 Oh. I meant to tell you too, Michael Cruz (who passed away a couple of years ago) did all of the engineering from 1983-88. I'll have to check for 89-91, but Craig Sharmat did it from 92-93.
