Ferneyhough- Sonatas for String Quartet (1/4)

Again, it seems like everyone is uploading Ferneyhough's Quartets, so here is one I definitely know isn't available on here (or pretty much anywhere). This is an earlier work by Ferneyhough, recorded in 1976 by the Berne Quartet, the "Sonatas for String Quartet". Despite the name, it is a single piece in a single movement; the silences are part of the work, and is thus presented in single movement format. If you wanna get into Ferneyhough but have trouble getting around his aesthetic, this might be a good place to start (I'd also suggest surfing through my stuff for his Funerailles).

The only thing that stands between Brian "Ok Guys, just fake it" Ferneyhough and Michael Nyman is an enormous pile of bullshit. You may pretend to yourselves that this represents the final word in the overall Hegelian evolutionary development pof musical endeavour. You can even pretend that every work and every note is born from the profoundest thinking. Or you can simply look at how prolific these guys are and marvel at their commercial nous.

I think that you should reread Hegel's lectures on aesthetics, though, assuming that you read them in the first place, because you don't understand him whatsoever. But I admit that he's a better namedrop than like . . . Nietzsche, or something. So he's second-to-last tier.

@egapnala65 You would do well to read a bit about what you despise. If you feel your blood boiling as you read, try to better yourself; if you can take anything away from it, know that "ok guys, just fake it" isn't a sentiment shared by most anybody else familiar with Ferneyhough. If anything, you might be most upset at the emphasis on the most employed technique for his pieces, mapping the rhythms to memory, which is surprisingly accurate in many cases. Very little faking involved.
