1986 all the way!!! I hate it when people make modern versions of 80s movies. 1986 version with c Thomas Howell=one of the best movies ever! End of discussion.

Actaully i like the first one better not because of the gore but because of the new hitcher, Hes darker got the voice for it...and hes a good bad guy, and not only are the young couple played by better acters and wasn't it suppost to be gory? i mean hes a insane guy who murders people in the most brutal ways i think their both good but the hitcher (2007) was better

Why bother with the comparison at all? The original was made with the genuine intention of entertaining the audience with compelling characters and an intense villian. The garbage Platinum Dunes remake was made as a desperate attempt to cash in on the popularity of the original and amounted to little more than a weak exploitation film.

@superbeast889 Sean Bean is a good actor but I fail to see how he is a better villain than the legendary Hauer.

1986 is so much better. it had suspense and was chilling while the remake was just action and gore.
