In this video series I will modify a fixed, polymer Bulgarian AK-47 stock and a laminated wood Romanian AK-47 stock to become two side-folding stocks! Based on an exciting discussion on the Saiga-12.com fora, this project features wood, plastic, metal, and two different kinds of epoxy.

The third video changes pace a bit as I start work on on the Romanian laminate stock. Work starts with some tedious measurements...

  • @armaggedonite Sounds good! The original post on S12 had a much cleaner, more attractive solution. I was just trying to avoid the problems someone else had using a laminate stock. Another poster's good idea is drilling all the way through the laminate stock's wrist and letting the (necessarily long) machine screws bear up against the bottom of the upper stock recess, similar to the poly stocks. If I find another laminate stock for cheap, I may try it myself!

    Good luck and thanks!

  • @DrThunder88 Don't get me wrong. I think you had a solid and creative solution. I considered doing the polymer pretty much exactly as you did. For the wood though, it seems like the whole point is traditional looks, and those side channels kind of defeat the purpose.

I have a solid wood that is in "good condition" so I will hack it up and re-finish, but I don't think I will need the plate quite like yours.

  • @armaggedonite If your stocks are nice, you're definitely right to leave them be. I wouldn't do this project with any sort of rare or especially good-looking stock. That said, I don't think the world is poorer for me hacking up a beaten-up Romanian laminate, black Bulgarian polymer, or Tapco stock! I wasn't much poorer either since I already had the Bulgarian and Tapco stocks in my parts bin and wasn't using them for anything else.

  • good video. I think I want to keep mine pretty though. Thanks for linking on S12

  • @223remsucks You're very kind. Thank you for watching!
