As Nick said, getting hit in the head by a hockey ball is pretty fucking lethal.

You chat about a "mans game", like many Americans do - and then you point to American Football and Ice Hockey.. Um, pads, anyone? When we Europeans suggest you play either Rugby or (proper) Hockey, we're "faggots" or "wannabe cunts" :L

Agreed. As an American who plays rugby and football, rugby is certainly the most athletic game out of the two, though I play ice hockey and find that the toughest physically. I really don't think a sport should merit from how much it hurts though. thats just stupid. why the hell should i not where protective gear. Not like it makes the game easier. It just lets me stay in the game longer, and maybe let me play it into old age (ice hockey)

We don't really have men's field hockey in the US for whatever reason. But if those kind of shots are common in Europe, this is definitely a MAN'S SPORT. That goalie has gotta get a bruise from that hit.

i do have to say im not quite sure why the american football players wear so much padding but ice hockey players need it purely due to the speeds they achieve on the ice.

and for some of the less knowledgeable ,ice hockey is not a dumb american sport,its canadian and canadian and europeans make up most of the worlds hockey players so its no point slagging the americans of

people need to stop slagging of sports , iplay both feild and ice hockey and both are amazing sports but require slightly diferent skill sets both have thier merits and weaknesses and you cant judge a sport on "how much it hurts"

though for those of u who dont know nhl and the stanley cup playoffs are some of the toughest and hardcore events u can see
