The Old Red Fox - Mr. Alan Reid Esq.

For those of us who have a very deep love & sense for history, it's need through the human experience to be respected as something very precious to the betterment of our inner & outer being along with our future, we sadly find history today been seen as something old & un cool something to be forgotten, well the indisputable fact is that in any of life's experiences we have in the deep recesses of our minds what has gone before & what is happening that instant, tis the only way to plan for the future, take it away & we may as well stop being human beings !

This lovely piece of fairly recent history features the fascinating life of one of Australia's most interesting shapers of this nation's past, which til this very day & beyond changed Australia for ever more, I refer to The Old Red Fox himself, Mr. Alan Reid Esq.

I really don't want to make to much political comment regarding this piece, but something Alan Reid said in it made my little grey cells fire, I'm referring to his observation that Labour are the party of dynamics, am wondering if he were here today would Alan Reid consider The ALP the pathfinders of politics, the dynamic party of innovation ? I fancy it would be an interesting response from the chap....

Some ALP hacks & lumeries should not continue to feel bitterness toward a fellow who exposed them in '63 - try to put yourselves in his shoes & feel his pain at being pilloried & refused readmittance to The ALP in the '50's - any wonder he helped in the re-election of the incumbents in '61. Am sure Mr. Reid was independent of mind enough from Sir Frank to feel at least a degree of agreement with him when passing on Sir Frank's thoughts to Menzies. Also the reference to B A Santamaria was interesting, as my late Grandfather couldn't stand a bar of that man, Grandad was a Queenslander, a long serving worker for The NSWGR, a Mason & an ALP Man. It was always hard to get the wily old fellow to open up before his passing, but we did have many a spirited chat while we drove around NSW in his 1967 Datsun, one of the first Jap cars off the boat he used to tell me & was still driving it into the early 1980's !

One of the last comments made by Alan Reid in this piece concerning men that work with their hands really strikes home, I know that every man & woman in this country would, or should agree that a country must produce product to survive, both for home & abroad; that is sadly lamented by followers of this economic necessity as Australia's manufacturing base crumbles into the abyss, replaced by inferior nasty cheap & dangerous imported products produced solely for the almighty $ with little care to pride in production, nor safety for the Australian consumer.

Australia as we know it will cease to exist if this tide continues & I fear that only then the likes of Alan Reid's words will be ingrained into the national psyche....too late....Alan Reid & his ilk might be thought of as old timers & of little interest by some today, but that's history & so will be Australia ! If that does not further prove that old time comments are as valid in today's world, I don't know what does....someone tell me, really need to find people who can win a debate on that, but one knows that will never happen.

Footnote : Hope you find this promised video interesting Mr. Peter Harvey, Cheers.
