Footage from Padstow, Cornwall, as the traditional Darkie Day parade progresses past where we were stood. This tradition is often surrounded by controversy due to people "blacking" themselves up, and people mistaking this for some kind of anti-negro / black / slavery statement. However, it is a tradition to do with disguise and historically masks were also used. There is no racism/slavery connotations with Padstow at any point in history. The day is all about folk music, song, and of course, alcohol LOL. Enjoy!
