A demo of my ACR Personal Locator Beacon. - Update...I still believe the ACR 406 MHZ platform to the best when it comes to summoning help in an emergency. BUT...there is always a but isn't there...there service known as 406Link that allows you to send "I'm OK" messages, is in my opinion, not reliable. It turns out that every single time I have tried to send an OK message from the mountains, it has failed to send it. It seems that you need a clear view of the southern sky in order for it to work. And that is hard to do in a forested area, or a mountain valley.
After looking into it, I'm purchasing the Spot 2 messenger. - I encourage all to look at the pluses and minuses of each platform and decide for yourself.
@erikgoestocollege - I needed to update the review on this. In a nutshell the ACR 406 MHZ beacon is VERY reliable when it comes to summoning help. Fact is, there are probably none better. BUT, when it comes to those "check in" messages, (which use different sat's than the ones used in emergencies) I have found it is NOT reliable. Time and time again, my check in message is not sent when I'm in the mountains. - I will be moving to the Spot 2 platform.

I just bought the TerraFix beacon. Thanks for showing me how to send that message. If you could film how to set that up on the computer, I'd appreciate it!
