This short film tells the story of acclaimed New Orleans restaurant owner Willie Mae Seaton and her drive to rebuild her landmark restaurant, following the devasting floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina. The story takes an unexpected turn when the Southern Foodways Alliance and others step in to help the 89-year-old rebuild her restaurant and start serving her famous friend chicken again.

  • Willie Mae's is as safe to visit and the food is delicious. Plan on being there for a while if you go to visit because the fried chicken takes a while and the waitstaff is all family, but well worth the wait. Also try Dooky Chase's just down the street.

  • man the fried chicken there was sooooo good

  • just seen the special on rebuilding willie maes on public tv.. made me sick.... these people that took over are lazy and did not even want to work... willie mae was trying to make a profit off ot the kindness of white people after they rebuilt it for her... she wanted to sell the place after they finished and the only work she did was to make up a bowl of batter for the chicken

Willie Mae is still alive and kicking. She doesn't cook anymore as she is in her 90's and retired. Her great granddaugher is now the cook. The chicken is still great. Had it last in December and will have it again when I visit again in later this March.

  • Been there on numerous occasions, and its quite possibly the "Best Fried Chicken On The Planet". Being born and raised in New Orleans, that's not an easy feat to accomplish.

  • I want to take a trip to the Scotch house. How safe is that section?
