Freemansburg, Pa-- Police Officer Robert Lasso was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call at a home on New Street at about 5:15 pm. He was shot in the head when he encountered the subject.

Moments later the police chief arrested the homes occupant. Officer Lasso was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wound.

Officer Lasso had served with the Freemansburg Borough Police Department for seven years. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Memorial Fund Information:

Heights Community Federal Credit Union has established a fund for slain Freemansburg police officer Robert Lasso's family. Lasso was a customer of the credit union in Bethlehem Township, Pa. Contributions can be made to The Robert A. Lasso Memorial Fund at 3530 Freemansburg Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18020. Manager Chris England said contributions may also be made in person at the bank, which is at Sixth Street and Freemansburg Avenue in the Miller Heights section of Bethlehem Township.

Additional Fund Information:

Wawa customers can contribute by purchasing a donation coupon for $1 at stores in Bethlehem, Easton, Fountain Hill, Lower Nazareth Township and Palmer Township. In addition to the in-store collection campaign, Wawa Inc. will donate $2,000 to the Robert Lasso Children's College Fund. Wawa will collect donations from Saturday through Aug. 22.

  • God bless officer Lasso and his family. Let's not forget his service and dedication to his community. His children deserved to grow up with a father but may they take comfort in knowing and remembering their father was a hero. May justice for him be swift.
