The main problem with this is the proposed definition "Large landmasses seperated from each other by oceans". This is not what continent meant when the word originated. Consider the three continents known to the original namers...the Greeks. They knew that Europe, Asia, and Africa were all connected by land. In fact, continent originally meant "large landmass partly separate from another by water, but connected by land as well"

You are right!. I'm not surprised. Some people, has divided the continent of America into two, and they kill the continent of Oceania, and they take the attribution to say that a country is not a country but a continent!. These people like to fool around with continents and countries. Unfortunately, this is the typical ambiguity as a result of inconsistent or wrong foundations. Incredible, Believe or not!. that's make me laugh :).

Well, I really don´t say it. History and facts show, and say it so, and that explains the ambiguity. That's what happens, and so it is now.

History and mapping as you say, unquestionably shows that people who founded the United States in the eighteenth century did not have the correct knowledge about America. Martin Waldseemüller in 1507 gave the name of America for the new world as a continent, honoring to Vispucci.

That is correct. I see nothing wrong with that statement. I'm glad that you see America as both.
