Shoji performs traditional piece called Choshi. The name translates roughly to "Condition." It sounds a whole tone higher than usual because it is being played on a 1.6 because he is conditioning for a performance of Haru no Umi which must be played on a 1.6.

  • Beautiful! Is the 1.6 much harder to play?

  • Thank you. It might be the instrument that I have, but I find it much harder to get a 1.6 to sing than a 1.8.

  • Wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Thank you for listening and, more than that, enjoying it! I am very honored.

  • domo shoji-san. It is not often that one can see authentic honkyoku.

  • Your excellent performance makes me proud of a culture in which I was born and brought up many years. Carry on your good work as a cultural citizen-ambassador!
