Bench Press Attempts:

1st attempt = 300 pounds (successful)
2nd attempt = 325 pounds (successful)
3rd attempt = 350 pounds (successful)

Bodyweight: 231 pounds

Weight Class: 225+ the super heavy weight class in this competition. Second place winner!

Thoughts on my attempts:

300 went up easy as anything about 1 second up, my mother was in the bathroom during this attempt so she did not get it on film, we thought we had more time to kill before I started, both misjudged on our parts. 325 was very easy as well, another quick 1 second positive. 3rd attempt of 350 was easy as well, easier then it was in training when I practiced all 3 of my attempts. That went up in about 1.5 seconds which would be the fastest I have ever pushed up 350 before, I felt I had a double in me, I regret not going for 355 or 360, but I decided to stay safe and go 5 pounds below my max (355 pounds) I usually do the same thing in sanctioned meets as well I go 5 pounds under my best paused max, because ya never know when you will get a strict judge that will give you a 1-2 second pause. If I would have had a 4th attempt I would have gone for 355-360 definitely. Regardless I still took second place against 5 competitors in my weight class, the most competitors i have had so far in a powerlifting competition. They also were all bigger then me, Mike (the first place winner in our weight class, guy who I train with sometimes at my gym) was 239 pounds, two other guys were nearly 260 pounds, and the biggest guy in our class was 280 pounds. So basically my competitors had 10-50 pounds on me. Although my light weight paid off and gave me an advantage as well, as the competition was based on the strongest pound for pound lifter. Mike had benched 1.55 over his bodyweight or 370 pounds, I benched 1.52 over my bodyweight or 350 pounds, so he had beaten me by .03, it was close. Ironically 205-225 weight class the first place person did 360 at 219 bodyweight, so even in that weight class I still would have gotten second lol.

Meet info:

This competition was not a sanctioned meet, it was touch and go, no pause. People got away with stuff that would never pass in sanctioned meets probably. There was a person who arched on the tips of there toes, and did not keep them flat on the ground. A few of the lifters butts left the bench during there attempts (which would be instant red lights in a sanctioned meet usually). There were people that had dips in the bar, which basically means the bar started to come downwards towards them during there attempt. This is a meet where you could get away with just about anything, nonetheless it was still a lot of fun, and was a good meet to just relax and do your best and not have to focus on the press commands and the rack commands, which can usually be quite nerve racking in sanctioned meets to some lifters including myself haha. I didn't really care about the rules i just wanted to get into any competition I could find and I found out about this week two weeks ago when I was training at that gym for my triathlon. I have had terrible luck this year with meets, I signed for like 3 meets this year but got canceled because not many people signed up for them.

  • gotta love the haters right :P

  • @maxis986 This comment is about a year old, I said I could deadlift 235 for 10, not for one rep, learn how to read before you type. You're the keyboard warrior... I never talked tough, idiot.

  • why the disrespect to tehjeremyseff? His squats and deadlifts are fine, there nothing spectacular but there not god awful, but one thing for certain is he is one hell of a bencher, he benches more then twice his bodyweight.

  • @TehJeremySeff your ur a joke you only can deadlift 235 and squat 225 ??? you would get rapped in a competition and your bench where are you doing this on the moon rofl your a keyboard warrior

  • @WeightLifterNerd Yea, I'd love to do bench press contests, but I'm so ashamed of my leg strength lol! My upper bodies what does the high weights xD! In my profile I have a video of me benching 315 five times soo I'm not just making up numbers like some people, I have a video to back it up :D

  • thats a really good bench for your size dude, thats about a 2.5 bodyweight bench press, if you competed in local contests you might clean up and maybe even in federation meets, whoever lifts the most pound for pound is the winner. If it was a bench only contest you might surely kill the competition, in most contests i have seen I rarely see people in the 148 and 165 weight class bench 300+. I think you should consider competing at least in the bench press.

  • @WeightLifterNerd Well, I never really squat or deadlift too much :( the must I do for deadlift is 235 for ten and squats 225 for six lol. But I can probly max 370, 375 for bench.

  • yeah tell me about it, I struggle a lot to lose weight as well, but all you could do is sweat off 2 pounds of water weight, weigh in, then drink it back before competition, or bulk up and compete in the 165 weight class. If your only 2 pounds over I would recommend going for the 148, what can you lift bro? What are your bench, squat and deadlift?

  • @WeightLifterNerd It's so hard to lose weight :( even though it's only 2 pounds for 148 lol

  • the weight classes are 148 and 165, you have to weigh exactly that number or below to compete in it.
