He can canter faster than that,if you have a whip,tap with your legs 4 times,hard. Then whip him before the jump. It does help

he was cantering fine and didnt need whipping before the jump. clubbing him with your legs doesnt do anything..he doesnt listen. keeping my legs still and squeezing worked fine.
