  • the katas are something like an exam for the next belt

  • @obiwan4eto - I like to say that kata is the curriculum.

  • Nice. The techniques are fairly sharp and fast. I'm of the shotokan school that uses the lower stances, but this is decent for your style.

  • @ThaHonestTruth - Funakoshi said in his 20 precepts, "Practicing a kata exactly is one thing, engaging in a real fight is another." I only care that you see the fight in my kata because the rest will follow.

  • what are katas for?

  • @Iluminista991 - Kata were a way to practice and remember self-defense moves. Over the years, many of the applications within kata were lost in time leaving a ritualistic method of practice. Many people are attempting to rediscover these lost applications or bunkai through diligent research.

  • @trosanelli I heard it wasn't just about remembering, but to also build muscle memory to help do the moves instinctively while not thinking about them.

  • And the Uki Ashi?...

  • Very good. Congratulations. The only video I've seen that contentious view back
