Wow, where to begin? This video has been in production for over a year. Hard to believe it's over. Special thanks to my girlfriend, my brother, and all my absolutely wonderful friends for the support and advice you all have given me during the lengthy and trying production of this video.

Off the heals of my very amateur "No Avatar for Old Men", I decided to ratchet it up a notch and try my hands at a full-length song, whilst knowing very little about video editing going in, and let me tell you, it was a trial by fire. I have learned so much going in, that even though this is, without a doubt, the best video so far and I am very proud of it, all of my future videos will be better because of it.

In this crazy, messed up, physically violent world, we are constantly surrounded by multimedia blitzes of physical threats, dangers, paranoia, political spin, hate speech, ignorance, and general insanity. It becomes sometimes too easy to forget that we are all human beings, part of one planet, one ecosystem, one common struggle for survival. And yet sometimes there are little things that can remind us of just how all of it is simply part of the human experience, an endless struggle to understand, overcome, and transcend conflict. Sometimes these things can be little, sometimes big, world changing even. And sometimes they can come from a fantasy-themed television show for kids.

But Avatar: The Last Airbender is more than a show with flashy kung-fu and gorgeous production values. It is ultimately a show that is comprised of, as the creators themselves have described it, "marvelously flawed characters." And they are marvelous indeed, because there is a little bit of each of them in all of us. My video attempts to capture the zeitgeist that made the show so wonderfully famous and remarkable. It is my hope that one day, someone, somewhere who has watched Avatar and is standing over a red button, about to press it, thinks of Aang's choice at the end of the series and decides to find another way, for there always is.

Fun Tidbit: Every single frame is altered in some way, and no two scenes used are altered in the exact same way.

  • Congrats on making the Anime USA finalists!! I was very happy to see you on the list when I attended the con. After being dissapointed that it wasn't in the finals at Otakon I was quite excited! :) I voted for you, I can't seem to find the results anywhere...do you know if you won the category?

  • @Orenjiday I got 3rd place in Drama, apparently. You can find the results on animemusicvideos dot orgif you look under the "Contests" area and find the AnimeUSA thread. Results should be in the first post.

I think I'm about ready to retire this from con submissions. It had a freaking fantastic run, and has been received better than I could have hoped, but I want some exposure to go to my new BeBop vid, and some other yet-unfinished projects I'm working on.

Thanks for voting for me! :)

  • PERFECT, absolutley positively win! I can't wait to see this in the finalist on the big screen. great job! You have my vote! I would only suggest editing out the white lines on the sides. Other then that go ahead and pat yourself on the back! No...im serious...DO IT NOW!O_O. But really sosososososososososo good! Once again fantastic job and I cannot wait to see this win!

  • @SebastianDrench Thank you so much, but I didn't make it to the finalists. You can probably still catch it on the overflow. And the version I sent in does not have the white lines, and a few effects are cleaned up.

  • @UnderTheBoxProduct They already chose the finalists?

  • @SebastianDrench Yeah, they chose them a week or two ago. Competition was fierce this year.

  • Who the hell dislike this video..

  • This has to be the best avatar tribute .....can't for legend of Korra...

  • how beautifully you combine all the best parts of Avatar in one amazing video...

  • Honestly, you have made the greatest AMV I have ever seen. Not only does it celebrate Avatar, but it utilizes creatively timed special effects. Every time I watch this it almost brings tears to my eyes.

    God I miss this show.
