This video shows Lewis, aged 7, imitating somebody dancing in on the computer. He was doing this at 4 as well but I never got around to filming it.
His spontanious imitation is a direct result of our early imitation teaching and means that he now learns much better through imitation which is how typical children learn.
When he was smaller we used to have a mirror right next to the telly and the computer so he could se himself imitating.

  • At the moment he has a virtual obsession with mirrors (he wants "a big green mirror" for christmas) and uses them in all sorts of imaginative ways - to look at the telly, his computer, to reverse what he sees etc. I believe that mirrors are important. Children with autism can have a very fuzzy understanding of who they are.

  • @cracyrockysback > Try to introduce mirrors in a non-pushy way. Hang mirrors at your sons eye level - like near the TV or his little table or in his room. Lewis' has had phases where he used his mirrors a lot and others where he ignored them completely but there has always been mirrors where he would pass them or sit infront of them often. He has used them to dance in front of or he sometimes checks his expression in the mirror to see what HE looks like when he is sad, happy etc.

  • My son is 4 and im still trying to get him to do this, did try a mirror but he hate's them.

  • My son loves to imitate as well. It's also what helps him learn. Ignore those that don't understand Autism. Anyone who can say that about a child should be calling themselves a retard!

  • multisnooty- your a fuckn rude dog , how dare you!

  • what a fucking retard!

  • he looks like a fantastic child , an what a dancer ..

  • Does your child have dreams where he or she can smell and taste the colors?

  • I'm getting flashbacks.
