  • if anyone out there hasn't red "a short history of nearly everything", i highly recommend it.

  • He seems like one of those guys who you would love to sit down with and have him talk to you for hours and you wouldnt be bored in the slightest! Everything he said would fascinate you!

  • The man is a racist for there is hardly any book where he's not providing gratuitous slurs against Germans. I believe he does it to suck up to his beloved British audience, believing it falls on fertile grounds - well, it probably does.

  • Why is the end cut off?

  • he's kindof annoying and doesn't grasp certain things but i enjoy his writing in general.

  • The thing that alarms me is that Bill just hasn't written enough books!!!!! The world should mourn when Bill stops writing.

  • @pilotwave It's a brilliantly written book. Very informative.

  • Bill Bryson is the writer I recommend to people who say they don't like books, he's not patronising at all and he's so funny, especially Notes From A Small Island, speaking as a Brit, also I'll read a travel book on Canada, going in about 5 years and have wanted to go for most of my 23 years on this planet

  • Bill Bryson is the reader's writer - through his writing he quickly makes you his friend, and furthermore you immediately want to be his friend. That is a very rare talent. He reaches out to the reader, makes him/her laugh, and tells us things we quite possibly always knew but which we never truly realised we knew. To my mind, he is probably the best social comment author in the English language of modern times.

  • i`ve just recently got into his books -bloody great

  • WHAT??!!!

Bill Bryson wants to write a book about Canada but Canadians wouldn't read it? Bollocks! I would!
